About WSO

Founded in 1966 with 85 artists, the Watercolor Society of Oregon (WSO) is a statewide organization of more than 800 members. The primary activities of WSO are holding exhibitions of members work and providing education opportunities, both for the members and others interested in the creation and appreciation of the visual arts.

Membership in WSO
There are two types of membership available Active (juried) and Subscriber (not juried). Applicants for Active membership must be residents of Oregon. Subscribers may live anywhere in the world, but need to provide a United States address for mailings.

  Juried Exhibitions
WSO holds juried exhibitions of members' paintings at the Spring and Fall Conventions. Members are invited to submit paintings to be juried by nationally recognized artists. Eighty paintings are chosen for each show and are published in a 28 page, color Exhibition Catalog. Of those, twenty are selected by the juror to receive awards and travel throughout the state. Award winning paintings tour the state of Oregon for six months.

The Watercolor Society of Oregon also sponsors special educational events and workshops. The Society maintains an extensive slide and video rental library and keeps the membership informed with the quarterly newsletter, the Watermark. Companies and organizations supporting the Watermark appear on the WSO Resource Links page.

Conventions and Exhibitions are held at various locations within the state. A list is available along with links to photos of exhibition paintings.

Bonney Lamb Memorial Scholarship
Bonney Lamb was a member of the Lake Havasu City, AZ Art Guild, the Dunes Art Club of Reedsport, and the Watercolor Society of Oregon. She served many years as a member of the Board of WSO and then as chair of the Education Committee.

Upon her death in 2003 a generous donation was made to the WSO 100 Club, Inc. Education Fund to continue her dedication to art education. The money will be given in a yearly scholarship of $500 to a child in grades 7-12 designated as “at risk” or attending an alternative school. The scholarship is to be used for art education. The recipient will be selected through an application filled out by the child’s teacher and voted on by a Committee of persons who are both WSO members and teachers. Art education can mean workshops or art supplies. The $500 Scholarship will be co-signed by the teacher and the student.

Fill out the application and return it before May 1 to be considered for this year's scholarship. Applications received after May 1 will be considered for next year's scholarship.

WSO 100 Club, Inc.
WSO established a non-profit foundation, the WSO 100 Club, Inc., in 1984. Interest from this fund is used for awards and education. The 100 Club guarantees a certain amount of money for each exhibition. In order to encourage wider participation from the Active membership, WSO tries to provide approximately $5000 in awards in each competition. The balance is made up of additional donations in the form of cash or gift certificates from our members, friends, and businesses in the community. To make a tax-deductible donation to the 100 Club, please contact Awards Chair, , or download this form.
