Rental catalog of the WSO library of instructional
videos and slide archives from 1985 to the present.

WSO maintains a collection of videos and slides which are available to members. For a small rental fee, members can learn about watermedia in the comfort of their own home and on their own time schedule. When you can't afford the time or money for a workshop, this is the next best thing!

Burton Silverman   88 min VHS Break the rules of watercolor. Silverman takes watercolor to new areas of exploration, removing the artificial separation between it and other mediums. Lay a ground, apply layers of paint, blend, model, lift, wipe off...you can, with his methods.
Marilyn Simandle 105 min. VHS Rose Rhapsody - A dynamic demo of roses--Spontaneous and with lots of sparkle.  Good discussion of composition, value and shapes--all the principles of good art.  She paints with confidence and enthusiasm that is infectious.

VHS Rhythmic Reflections - Armed with a handful of small brushes and palette knife, Simandle creates a wonderfully fresh and loose painting of a Victorian house reflected in a pond.  A traditionalist with a Impressionistic palette, she is exuberant about color.  Demo is combined with a good discussion of painting fundamentals.

Painting Wild Places - In this video, Spetz paints beautiful Lake McDonald of Glacier National Park, striving to capture the ambience of wilderness. He uses significant amounts of masking fluid as he proceeds through the painting process, mixing colors on the paper, then removing the masking before proceeding to the next section of the work, an interesting approach to watercolor painting.

     2. Quick study of a waterfall. Spray off color to suggest movement

Three Snow Demos - Less is definitely more in rendering three winter scenes.
     1.  Soft wet-on-wet background trees set off a dominate
          foreground jumble of rocks in snow.
     2.  From a non-staining color wash, highlights are lifted creating an
          exciting pattern of cast shadows of the trees onto the snow.
      3. An icy river flanked by snow completes this workshop.

Zoltan Szabo est.1-hr plus VHS Little Falls - Zolton demonstrates doing a charcoal value sketch and a small ( 10” X 11” ) painting of a waterfall.  He uses a wet-into-dry technique for this slow moving video. If you like Szabo’s work, you will enjoy this tape.

Solving The Mystery of Watercolour - This video was filmed in and around Melbourne, Australia, Taylors home town. He demonstrates both in his studio and outdoors, painting a variety of subjects including water, boats, buildings, sunlit streets and the beautiful Australian landscape.

35 mm Show Slides

The slides from all Spring and Fall shows from 1985 to 2005 are available to rent for the $7.00 rental fee for each show.  These can be furnished with a Kodak Carousel, or without, depending on your needs. Those shipped without the carousel will be in slide holders in a 3-ring binder. Please let your preference be known. CDs are available for all shows from 2006 to the present.
